This is the home stretch!  Last full week before taper.  This week was supposed to include the Wine & Dine Half, but due to lightening, the race was decreased to 7ish miles.  I also skipped my run on Sunday since I didn't go to bed Saturday night until almost 6am and by the time I awoke it was 90 out.

Training recap week of 9/7 and 9/14 (Route 66 Week 8 & 9)

I went to write this week's recap and realized I hadn't posted the last two weeks training recaps.  Just been a couple of those weeks at work (in a good way!).  I expected that getting settled into work would disrupt blogging, so I am not surprised.  I figure I'll get caught up today on the previous two weeks and then do last weeks tomorrow (or Wednesday).

Week 8

This week was not great; I was feeling really stiff and a bit in pain (mainly in my shins). This happened when I was training for Grandma's too. I don't seem to do too well with total mileage in the 40's.  I scaled back some runs this week to let my body recover a bit.

Monday
Scheduled: Rest
Actual: Rest

Tuesday
Scheduled: 7 miles easy pace
Actual: 7.0 mi, 1:08:49, 9:50 pace

Wednesday

Total September miles: 78.81

Late last week, runDisney released the medals for Wine & Dine.  As you know, Wine & Dine is one of my FAVORITE runDisney races.  I have always loved this medal - the iconic Spaceship Earth and running waiter Mickey on it.  The new design this year keeps the waiter Mickey, but loses Spaceship Earth.  I am not sure I like this medal as much as I have in years past.  But in my experience, the runDisney medals are never photographed well.  So, I am keeping my hopes up that it is better in person!

And in some awesome news from runDisney that came today - it is official, there will be a Star Wars race weekend in Disney World!  I mentioned after the Star Wars half in Disneyland, that I had some serious FOMO from this race {and side note from that post, I re-watched all the original Star Wars and now love them (I hadn't seen them since elementary school).  How I went so long without re-watching them is beyond comprehension!  My movie tastes have definitely changed since I was 14.}   Unfortunately, a trip this January to Disneyland was not in the cards, so I was sad I wouldn't be able to do it again.  But a Star Wars race in World?  That I can do!

So, what do you think about the Wine & Dine medals as well as the WDW Star Wars half?

Wine & Dine After Party

One of my favorite parts of the Wine & Dine race is the after party.  And, since it's included in your registration, this race feels like more bang for (your crazy expensive)  race fee!

This after party is always a great time, but this year it was a little emptier because of the rain.  It did stop for a little bit, but mostly, it rained the whole time.

After finishing, I bee-lined straight for the restrooms in Epcot.  I needed to get in some dry and warmer clothing.  Once that was done, I felt like a new person.

I was the first in our group to finish, so I took a walk around the countries and got some food and drink (and did some rides just to stay warm!).  The drinking also helped staying warm!

One of the best parts of this after party is that they have some unique characters out (just like the race!).  After meeting up with Michelle when she was done, we (of course) had to do a lap and get some photo's in!

I love the guys from Ratatouille!  They had some fun playing with my heatsheet!

Abu tried to steal my headband (as Aladdin said, it's the same color as a ruby)!

And of course some photo's with a jazz playing alligator, a wooden boy and Dopey!

Once we'd had all we could take of the cold and rain, we made our way back to the hotel!

Another successful Wine & Dine in the books!

Race Recap: Wine & Dine Half Marathon 2014

Wine & Dine Half Marathon
November 8, 2014

State: Repeat (Florida)
Lifetime: #49

Let's face it... this race should really have been called 'Do you know how to swim?'.  I am sure you heard, but it rained.  The entire time.  As this is one of my favorite races (don't worry, it still is!) and they usually have great characters out, I was bummed by the rain.

We knew it was going to rain all week.  But being an optimist (or delusional, take your pick), I was hoping it would hold out.  It did... for a teeny, tiny, little bit.

We had spend the morning at the expo and Downtown Disney before heading to the room to rest for a while before the race.  As is tradition for this race, I was running in my Wine O shirt.  I got that shirt made for the 1st Wine & Dine and have worn it every year since (and will continue to do so).

We headed to the buses around 7:45 and while there was a bit of a line, lots of buses where coming by and it went quickly.  There was definitely some traffic heading to WWOS, but since we'd just be sitting around once we got there, I didn't mind sitting in the (warm) bus instead.

Upon arrival, we met up with the group already there and of course had to take a group photo.  Loved everyone's costumes!

From there we did the normal pre-race things: check baggage, wait in line for bathrooms, head to corrals.  While waiting in the bathroom, it did start to rain.  Lightly at first.  I kept hoping it would just do this for the rest of the night.  No such luck.

While waiting at the corrals, it started to rain harder.  And it wouldn't relent at all for the night.  Fortunately, I was in Corral B and didn't have to wait around too long for the start, but I felt bad for everyone behind me waiting.  It's not great to run in the rain, it's even less fun to wait around to run in the rain.

This course is fun because you get 3 parks in it: Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot.  Usually, the course is lined with characters, some of which you rarely see.  However, because of the rain only a handful were out and not everyone had the same ones out (some that I saw, others didn't and vice versa).

On the way to Animal Kingdom, they had the bears from the Country Jamboree out (at least, I think that is what they are from - please correct me if I'm wrong!).  Since you hardly see them out, I stopped for a photo.

Night running = flash does weird things
From there we headed towards the front of the park.  They always have a character out front and I've always stopped for a photo.  I almost missed it this year as Rafiki was under the covering where they do security heading into the park.  But I saw him at the last minute and was able to continue my traditional picture!

The tradition continues!
Running through Animal Kingdom is always a favorite for me during this race.  It's so fun to be there at night and it is so pretty lite up.  However, due to the rain, I spent more time looking at the ground then taking in the scenery.  It can be uneven and with all the construction going on, I really needed to make sure I didn't trip.  I saw a couple of people stumble throughout the park.  Do the entire thing (just my personal opinion).  Sorry, mini-rant over.

I did catch Timon in Africa though!

From there we headed out of Animal Kingdom and started to head towards Hollywood Studios.  There weren't a lot of characters on this stretch so I just kept running.

While you are heading out of Animal Kingdom, you can see the people heading into Animal Kingdom in the later corrals.  I have to say, I saw a lot of people jumping the median and cutting the course.  I'm guessing it's because they were concerned about getting swept, but I (personally) don't think that's right.  If I pass you and you are walking with a bib from corral G or H, I know you cut the course.  Not cool, people, not cool.

By the time we headed into Hollywood Studios, I have to say, I was SO over the rain.  I was soaked to the bone and my skirt (while adorable) is layered and ruffly and it was so heavy from the water.  We headed into Hollywood Studios by Rock n Rollercoaster, down Hollywood Blvd and into Pixar Place.  This portion of the course seemed different to me.  I don't remember it going that way in different years, but I can't place my finger on what exactly changed.

They had some Toy Story characters out in Pixar Place (including Lotso who I am now sad I missed) but I was so not in the mood to stop and wait in line.  I was cold and just wanted to be done, honestly.

I stopped for a professional picture in the Osborne Spectacle of Lights, but of course it still hasn't shown up in Marathonfoto.  I searched for it and never found it.  Sadness, I was really looking forward to that one!

From there we start the trip to Epcot.  Once you leave Hollywood Studios, it's the same path as the marathon.  Definitely brought back some memories!

While on the path near Boardwalk, the girl running next to me was suddenly like, 'Is your name, Sarah'?  Caught me by surprise!  She did look familiar and she told me she remembered me from the TOT 10M corral.  A group of us had started talking to kill time and she was from there!  We ended up running the rest of the race together.  It was a nice reminder of how friendly runDisney racers are and a nice boost to the end!

After finishing, I got my medal, heatsheet and snack box, then headed to baggage.  I only had to wait a couple of minutes but I heard it got really backed up later!

I skipped the finish line beer they were handing out as I was freezing and made a beeline for the park to get changed in a real bathroom.  After that it was on to the after party!

I loved the medal this year and the fact that they brought the Spaceship Earth design back while still including Chef Mickey.  Fortunately, I didn't have one of the broken ones!

Overall, this is still one of my favorite races.  The course is great, I love that we get 3 parks and I love the after party (more on that later).  It's unfortunate the rain put a damper on things this year, but runDisney can't control that (although it is Disney so wouldn't be surprised if they could!).  I'll definitely be back again for this race!

Wine and Dine Half Marathon Expo

Wine and Dine is one of my favorite runDisney races and this year did not disappoint!

Race weekend started with a visit to the expo.  The expo was on par with most runDisney expo's.  They had some fun race weekend decorations out, which of course required a photo!

And because this weekend is all about the food and drink, we started the day off with a beer at the expo!  I don't know if they've done this at previous years, but they had colored cups for the beer.  I've gotten them at all the other races (except Everest) so had to get one this time.  Plus, beer!

After getting our beer, we went to packet pick-up.  The lines weren't bad and we got in and out pretty quickly.  The merchandise section at packet pick-up was already gone.  Like completely empty of all things.

We made our way into the main pavilion and got our race shirts.  They were maroon this year and I really liked the design.

After that we made a quick trip through the merchandise.  Fortunately, Abby had already picked me up my Sweaty Bands, so I didn't have to worry about getting those!  She also got my mini medal pin.

Even so, I still couldn't resist myself.  I ended up with a new mug, a new magnet and the 'I Did It' shirt.  I seem to always get the 'I Did It' shirt from this race.  Can't let the tradition slide!

After the merchandise area, we made our way through the rest of the expo, mostly doing window shopping.  I was strong and didn't buy anything else!

Up next, my Wine and Dine recap (finally!).

Hello everyone!  I am alive!  Hope you've been having a good week.  I am very happy it is Friday, let me tell you.  I am hoping to be back to regular blogging next week, but in the mean time let's do a quick training recap.

This past week included Wine and Dine in the rain - not ideal conditions, but we perserved!  This upcoming weekend, I have nothing planned.  After the craziness of the past couple of weeks, I am looking forward to a solid weekend home.

Training recap week of 10/20 (Wine and Dine Week 3)

Hey all!  Hope you all had good weeks - mine has been a bit crazy.  I apologize for the radio silence. Work has been busy and honestly, I haven't felt much like blogging.  Between work and travel, I have been feeling a little overwhelmed (I seem to have overbooked myself again).  It's not a feeling I like, so I am trying to pull back a little and take care of myself.  I didn't sleep well for 2 weeks since I was stressed out.  Not a good feeling.

I am still going to be blogging (I do enjoy it!) but it might be a little bit more sporadic until things calm down.  I have a couple of race recaps to finish (TOT and Baltimore) which I am excited to get done.

This week turned into an unintentional down week.  I ended up having to go away on a work trip Wed-Thurs (which I found out about on Tuesday).  I cut Tuesday's run short because I was stressed trying to get packed for my trip.  While I had intentions of running on my trip, I was feeling a bit under the weather (probably from the lack of sleep and stress) and decided it was better for me to rest those days.  By Saturday, I was feeling much better!

Training recap week of 10/13 (Wine and Dine Week 2)

How was everyone's weekend?  Sorry for the bit of radio silence, last week ended up being busy at work and you know how that goes.

I am continuing to do speedwork and man... I both hate it and love it at the same.  But it's necessary to get faster.  This past weekend, I was in Baltimore to run the Baltimore Half Marathon (state #19).  It was a challenging course (who knew Baltimore was so hilly?), but I ended up running my third fastest half marathon.  I was pretty excited and ready to do some more work.  Maybe on a flatter course, another PR is possible?  I'll have a full race recap soon, but I am very happy about the outcome.

2 on Tuesday

runDisney announced the event calendar for 2015-2016 late last week.  Immediately, social media erupted (okay, it actually did twice once when they posted and quickly removed and then when they "officially" published it) because of a couple of noticeable absences.  The first, Expedition Everest in 2016.  I am not really surprised for 2 reasons - 1) there have been rumors of Everest's cancellation for a while now.  If they aren't planning on holding it in 2016, it's not a huge shock; 2) it's kinda the blacksheep of races and is often announced last minute.  Might still happen and we just don't know yet.

The next item that is missing?  Tower of Terror in 2015.  When they first published it and then it went away, people assumed it was to add TOT.  But alas, the official one didn't have it either.  runDisney has since confirmed that TOT is "suspended" for 2015.  One hopes it will come back in 2016, but who knows?  There is a lot of speculation about why - construction at Hollywood Studios (which doesn't make sense since W&D goes through a larger portion of HS and it's not cancelled); to make room for a Disneyland Paris event?  Personally, I don't know.  I am just glad I did it before it got suspended!

In other runDisney news, lots of Wine and Dine updates were posted to the runDisney website.  They published the event guide and course maps.  The course map hasn't changed - in fact they didn't even change the date on the map (seriously, it still says 2013.  Seriously?).  But of course, most important is waivers and corral assignments.  My number puts me in Corral B.  It's only a couple of weeks away!  Can't wait!

Training recap week of 10/6 (Wine and Dine Half Week 1)

This was a very busy weekend for me.  I got 12 miles done (in the rain even!) and then yesterday, my niece (with my brother and sister-in-law) came to NYC for the day.  We spent the day playing in Central Park and the Children's Museum of Manhattan.  Let me tell you - 6 year olds are exhausting!  I was so tired; endless energy.

Otherwise, I had a good week of training.  It was nice taking the summer easy, but it's time to get back in the saddle.  I'm starting to incorporate some hill training and speedwork.  Felt good to get some hills done!  Next week is the Baltimore Half Marathon!

Race TBT: Wine and Dine Half Marathon Relay 2010

Thanks to TimeHop (my new favorite app!), I was reminded that 4 years ago today, I ran the Inaugural Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend.  Kasey and I ran the relay (no longer offered, sadness).

This was just the kick in the butt I needed to get a new series of posts started.  There was a long period on this blog where I wasn't actually blogging, but was running lots of races.  I've been wanting for a while to do a series where I share my memories/stories/whatever I can remember from those races.  I'm really doing this because I want to remember these races in the future, but hopefully you'll enjoy these trips down memory lane as well!

Since my first Wine and Dine was 4 years ago today (and I'll be in Disney this weekend for Tower of Terror), I thought it was appropriate to start with this race.  The first year it was held at the beginning of the Festival but was moved to the end when they added the Tower of Terror 10M.

As I mentioned, this was the inaugural race and while it was fun, I do remember there being some kinks!  It was actually Kasey's idea to run this race and we decided to do the relay.  I remember you had to have a team name.  In honor of the theme of the race, we named our team Wine-O and Dine-O (which is how I have my Wine-O shirt).

The race started at ESPN Zone (as it does now).  I remember us having to wait forever for a bus to the start, which was very annoying.  By the time we got there, we had to split almost immediately so Kasey could head to the transition point (I was running the first leg).  I don't remember the specific split of mileage, but it was something along 5 and 8.

Since I was running the shorter leg, I had decided to run with my camera to take pictures (this was before the time of decent camera phones).  I think this is where my obsessions with race photo's began =).

The race start was similar to any Disney race and Chef Mickey and Minnie are on site to send us off!  I happen to love those costumes, so it made me happy to see them!

The course (as much as I can remember) is the same for the first part.  I do know they changed the second half as I remember Kasey finished ride outside Epcot at Friendship Gate and it was a total sh*t show (not enough space for all the people).  They have since changed it to how it is now.

There were several of characters out on the course and I enjoyed stopping for them all!  I also got (what is now a traditionally photo) right outside the gates of Animal Kingdom.  Must remember to get the same one this year!

Fancy Chip and Dale
The ladies from Fantasia
Traditional photo!
I do remember thinking (as I still do now) how cool it was to run through Animal Kingdom at night!  The transition for the relay was in the Animal Kingdom parking lot.  They had the relayer's go to one side and the halfer's to another (we had different color bibs).  Someone was calling out numbers as you headed in and your partner met you.  They were organized by bib number as well.  I vaguely remember having to switch a bracelet or something as the relay "baton", but can't remember exactly.

I do remember Kasey telling me a funny story from while she was waiting.  There was a women in her section of bibs that insisted on being right at the front of the waiting area because "her friend is super fast and she'll be one of the first to come through".  Kasey said she kept repeating this any time anyone someone tried to move to the front.

I obviously didn't know this, but Kasey said she almost burst out laughing when I was one of the first people to come through and she got to move past the girl to switch with me.  I believe she told me she said something to the girl along the lines of "there's my friend before yours".  We are so mature.  I wasn't racing it or anything, but I thought it was funny.  I wonder how long she waited?

This is the part I remember not going so well.  After finishing, I picked up my medal, bag and snack box and headed to a bus to go back to Epcot to the after party.  But no one seemed to have planned it properly and the buses where trapped in between runners heading into Animal Kingdom and runners heading out of Animal Kingdom.  We were on a bus, but had to wait at least 30 minutes before we could move.  It was really annoying!

Eventually, we got going and made it to Epcot.  We got dropped off behind the scenes at American Adventure and got to see a little of the backstage area before heading into World Showcase.  This was the first year and they didn't have any of the rides open, just the Food and Wine booths (they have definitely made this better in recent years!).

Kasey and I had made a plan to meet in front of Italy (Kasey had a bunch of other friends running as well) so I waited for her in the vicinity tasting some food and enjoying a few drinks =)  Not a bad way to kill some time!

I also snagged a picture with Gepetto!

After regrouping with Kasey, we took our celebratory photo and one with the group!  Then it was on to enjoy the rest of the after party!

Team Wine-O and Dine-O
The whole gang of runners!

There were definitely some kinks in this first race and after year 2, they nixed the relay (which was kinda sad because it was fun) but they've definitely made improvements as it has gone on.  I can't wait to do it in a few weeks for the 5th Anniversary!

Wine and Dine 5th Anniversary Medal

As I mentioned yesterday in my 2 on Tuesday post, last week the Disney Parks blog shared sneak peaks of the anniversary medals.  In addition to the Goofy 10 year medal from yesterday, they shared the 5th Anniversary medal for Wine and Dine.  Drumroll please...

I don't just like this medal - I LOVE this medal!  First off, I love that it spins (yes, I am 5!) and I really love that they brought back the Spaceship Earth design from the first 3 years while incorporating the design from year 4.  I have done 3 out of the 4 previous years (missed year 2!) and the original Spaceship Earth was my favorite.

I almost didn't register for this year since Pam and I are also doing Tower of Terror, but now that I've seen the medal, I am so glad we did!  There is a group of us going and should be a good girls weekend.

Only 28 weeks and 3 days to go!

Any other Wine & Diner's out there?  What are your thoughts on the medal?

Wine and Dine Opens... and fills in 24 hours

My one of my favorite races, Wine and Dine, opened for registration on Tuesday.  Although I debated skipping this year because I am doing Tower of Terror, but it's the 5th Anniversary year, I just couldn't do it!

But what is most surprising is how quickly it filled.  Wine and Dine typically takes a month or two to fill (or even longer), but this year it filled in just over 24 hours.  I'm not sure why it filled so quickly, but my guess is A) it's the anniversary year so people want the special medal and B) with the announcement of Avengers, it gives people an opportunity to get Coast to Coast.

I am very excited to be doing this race again.  It's one of my favorite weekends - a great race and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival is going on.  Great time to be at Disney!

Any one else doing Wine and Dine this year?

Race Recap: Wine and Dine Half Marathon

Wine and Dine Half Marathon
November, 9, 2013

State: Florida (repeat)
Lifetime Half: #40

Oh god, this post is so overdue.  Sorry guys.  November was just not my month for blogging!  Anyway, better late then never, right?

Let's start with the Expo.  Pam and I arrived Friday morning and after changing and storing our stuff at the hotel, we headed straight to the expo.  After the craziness of the Disneyland Half expo, I wasn't sure what to expect.  The line to pick up was quick and the actual expo was pretty empty!  We went to the merch first and then made our way to the race shirt pickup.  The merch was not completely picked over yet (although the jacket Pam wanted was already sold out in her size).  Unsurprisingly, I got an "I did it" shirt and a sweaty band (it had the globe from Epcot on it, I could not resist!).  I also picked up a Wine and Dine Half magnet for my fridge.  I don't really know why, it was calling my name for some reason.

After we made our purchases, we headed back to the race shirt pick up.  I cannot wait until they have the Women's specific shirts for races.  The unisex (i.e. Men's) are way to big for me.  After picking up our shirts, we did a little bit of wondering before heading back to the hotel.  Pam took a nap and I headed to Epcot for some Food & Wine festival (Pam joined me after her nap).  It was still an early night for us though, we need to get our sleep for Saturday night.

We slept in on race morning and spent the day at Hollywood Studios.  We picked rides and attractions that required sitting so we could stay off our feet.  Last year we made the mistake of being busy all day and heading straight to the race and as they would say on How I Met Your Mother - we choose poorly.  This year, we tried to stay off them as much as possible and spent a couple of hours relaxing at the hotel in the late afternoon/early evening.

After resting, we got ready and made our way to the buses.  They had tons waiting in the parking lot and the line was moving very quickly (although it wasn't long.  We stayed at Port Orleans, French Quarter if you are wondering).  Pretty quickly, we were at the race.  Unsurprisingly, there was security to enter the waiting area (I think this will be a new standard moving forward), but it went quickly.

The race starts outside of Disney's Wide World of Sports so there was lots of space to hang out.  Characters were there taking photo's but the lines were insane so we passed.  We killed time people watching and checking out costume ideas.  Around 9, we checked out bags and then sat around some more.  Lots of time to kill at this one folks.  I do have to say, there was water in the runners only area and lots of porta potties which nice.  Around 9:30, Pam and I parted ways and headed to our corrals.

I was in corral B and they were definitely smaller then in past years.  The DJ and announcers did a great job of keeping us entertained (although, if I never hear the "what the fox says" song again, I'll be good).  Before I knew it, it was time to start.

The corrals definitely moved faster this time around.  I liked the quicker corral starts.  I never felt like it was crowded when I was running.  I was using this run as a long run and had no desire to push it.  While I was a little cold while waiting to start, once I started running it was hot.  Nothing too bad, but definitely a little humid.

I wasn't racing, but I also didn't want to stand around and wait in lines for characters.  My motto was if there was a good character and no line, I would stop.  End result, not a lot of photos, but I'm okay with that.

The course starts heading towards Disney's Animal Kingdom.  It's your standard Disney highway, so nothing special there.  But they had some entertainment out (more then I remember last year) which was nice.  Heading in to Animal Kingdom, I stopped to take a photo with Rafiki.  I have one from all 3 years I have done the race with him in the same spot, so I think I will continue to do that each year.  Nice to have a tradition, right?

Anyone else see the partially hidden Mickey in the background?
The loop at Animal Kingdom can be a little tricky as it's a little darker, but I felt like they had more lights then last year.  I still get excited running through Animal Kingdom at night since it's usually closed.

After Animal Kingdom, we made our way to Hollywood Studios.  I wasn't dying or anything, but for some reason, my easy pace was feeling harder then usual so I really was making sure not too push it.  I did stop for a photo with Captain Jack and Captain Barbossa along the route to Hollywood Studios.

Hey Captain Jack, you looking at me?
Finally we arrived at Hollywood Studios, which I always feel is the home stretch of this race.  We ran in near the Tower of Terror, down the main street and past the Ear Hat before heading past Midway Mania.  I did stop and take a photo with Buzz and Woody, but it is extremely unflattering of me and I am definitely not sharing with the internet (have to draw the line somewhere, right?).

We then headed out through the Backlot tour route and through the tunnel that goes past the costume windows.  This part of the route was definitely a little different then in 2012 and I was not a fan of the change.  The tunnel had strobe lights going and was full of fog.  I felt like the fog was trapped in the tunnel and I couldn't breathe.  I def speed up a little to get out of there.

Once we escaped the tunnel of fog (I just saw Catching Fire and am having fog nightmares), we headed into the Osborne light spectacular.  I love all things Christmas and this section just makes me happy.  I snapped a few picks and off I went.

So pretty... how big do we think that electric bill is?
After the lights, we headed past Star Tours (I may have tried to recreate my amazing Disneyland Half storm trooper photo but it did not come out as well, tear).

#fail
Following Star Tours, we headed out of Hollywood Studios and on to the walkway to Epcot.  This section is tough because it's a really narrow path and I can imagine it gets pretty crowded.  It wasn't too bad when I was there, but I can imagine in some of the later corrals it was.  There were some great spectators out by the hotel which was great.

Following the hotels, we headed into Epcot.  Only a small portion is in Epcot, so don't blink or you'll miss it.  After a quick jaunt past the ball we headed to the finish line.  It was set up with lots of lights (and some more fog).  It didn't bother me this time (more air so it wasn't suffocating), plus I was so happy to be done!

Once I got my medal, box of food, free wine (which was gross, next year I will take the beer) and changed, I head into the after party.  I didn't do a full change (I can't imagine putting real, clean clothing on when I am that gross) just a clean shirt and flip flops.  I also used some Nathan Power Shower Wipes to "freshen" up.  Obviously not as good as actually showering, but they made me feel human again.  I had some beers and got some food while making a lap of the World Showcase.  I did get some good photo's with the characters, but think I'll post those another time (if at all) to save you all.

This race continues to be one of my favorite Disney races.  I love the change up of the nighttime race, it's smaller and a different course then the half and Princess (which are the same).  Plus, the Food and Wine Festival is going on!  Running a half gives you a great excuse to stuff your face all weekend.

Wine and Dine is here!

Happy Friday everyone! As I write this I am sitting on one of the lovely Disney transportation buses heading to Epcot!

We left NYC very early this morning and arrived with only minimal issues (we are staying at Port Orleans - French Quarter and there was an issue with there computer so we couldn't check in at first. Nothing major!).

We've already done the expo (so low key - I'll have a full recap next week!!) and are now heading to Epcot to start our trip around the Food and Wine Featival!

Hope you are having a good Friday!

Wine and Dine Merchandise!

Happy Wednesday!  In just two days I will be in sunny FL for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon!  And just in time, the Wine and Dine merch is up on the Disney Parks blog!  I have been waiting all week to see what they are going to have.  Here is a preview of what they will have this year:

All photo's via the Disney Parks Blog post
I like the race logo on the shirts in the first photo, but let's be real, I do not need any more running clothing so I will probably pass on those.  I don't love the front of the 'I Did It', the back is nice (photo on the Disney Parks Blog).  I have one from last year, so I'll probably pass on that one too (how many 'I Did It' shirts from the same event do I need?).  I do like the Sweaty Bands (see yesterdays post), particularly the blue one with the Spaceship Earth design on it.  Depending on what else there is or how things look in person, I might pick up another item or two.

What are your thoughts on the W&D merch?  Anything you can't live without?

Wine and Dine Costumes

Hard to believe (especially for me 'cuz this race totally snuck up on me) but in less than 2 weeks I will be leaving for Wine and Dine.  This has always been one of my favorite races.  Kasey and I ran the relay the inaugural year and while I missed the second year, this is Wine and Dine number 3.

I am super excited (okay, probably not as excited as Dumbo, but it is definitely up there), and I have behind the scenes been preparing my costume.

Back when I was training for Dumbo, I gave a pretty detailed history of my costume progression (see the whole history here).  I think that list makes it pretty obvious that I am not going to go crazy (at least I haven't yet!).  For the upcoming Wine and Dine particularly, I am not going as intense on the costume as I did at Dumbo, but I am still getting into the spirit.

Since I knew I wanted to wear my "Wine-O" shirt again (it's become something of a traditional at Wine and Dine), I was tasked with the decision of what to wear with it.

I could have gone boring and worn any old pair of shorts with it.  But, I was at Lululemon a bit ago and found a skirt that reminded me of something waiters wear (navy with thin white strips).  Since it was on sale (good discount too), I picked it up for my Wine and Dine costume.  Adding a red sparkly Sweaty Band and I am going to be a "wine-o waiter".   I feel like it's not fancy, but perfect for Wine and Dine.

What are you dressing up as for Wine and Dine?

Wine & Dine Updates

In just 4 short (or long) weeks, I will be headed back to Disney for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon.  This year will be the third year I have done it and I am so excited!

The folks at runDisney have been busy updating the site with all the information you'll need for race weekend.  Up first, the official race program is now available.  Even though you get a printed copy at packet pickup, always a good idea to familiarize yourself with it before hand.

Final race instructions have not yet been posted.  They usually contain some important items so it'll be important to review once it does go up.

The course map was also posted.  Appears to be the same as 2012, but always good to review and know what you are getting yourself into.

Lastly, and one of the most important, waivers (and therefore numbers) are now live to download.  You'll need to download one to pick up your number and I recommend doing it before hand.  You can print at the expo, but it's annoying.

Corrals were also posted.  From reading about Tower of Terror, it looks like they are trying a new corral system - smaller people in the corrals and more corrals total.  They are also setting the corrals off every 2 minutes vs. 5 minutes.  Think it is supposed to help control the crowds a bit?  We'll see in 4 weeks I guess.

My number puts me in Corral C, but I have a qualifying time to be in B.  This is the last race where you can change your corral at the expo, so I think I am going to do that.

All these runDisney updates make me really excited for Wine and Dine!  Only 4 weeks to go!
