Tink Updates

Yay!  We are only 6 short weeks from the start of Tinker Bell race weekend (or long weeks depending on how you look at it!).  I know I cannot wait for this weekend to come!  So, I thought I would share some Tink items that I've been ruminating on for a while.

1. The Medals

I've been meaning to write a post on this since I came home from Princess.  But time got away from me, so let's do it now (yes, my Princess Half recap is coming... it's about halfway done.  My goal is to finish it this weekend!).  Anyway, on to the shiny stuff.

I love, love, love the 10K and Half medals.  First off, it makes me so happy that the half medal hasn't changed a whole ton since I did this race back in 2012.  I love that spinner so much!  I like the addition of the pearl/silver foil that makes the wings iridescent.  Love!  I am not as big of a fan of the Pixie Dust Challenge Medal.  Don't get me wrong, I like it, I just don't love it like I do the 10K and the Half.  I wish it tied slightly more into the styling of the other medals and included Wings.  I also really like the 5K medal with the Lost Boys on it.  Of course, I forgot to take a picture of it.

2. Tink Dooney & Bourke Bags

The first year I ran Tink, I remember loving the Dooney & Bourke bags.  Unfortunately, I didn't get one that time around (I didn't know about the pre-order and the one I would have wanted was sold out by the time I got to the expo).  I was hoping to rectify that this time around.

They released the designs yesterday and pre-order started.  Of course, the bag style I liked last time (a tote bag) is not included in this years design.

Whomp, whomp.  I am also not as in love with the design as I was before (it's cute, but for me, it's not 'can't live without it' and given the price, it has to be 'can't live without it', you know?).

I think the main sticking point (for me) is that it doesn't actually mention the race on it.  It says it's a unique runDisney design and while that may be true, it looks like a Disney bag you could get normally.  Personally, I was hoping it would at least say the race weekend.

Fortunately, my wallet is safe this time around (okay, more money to spend at the expo on other items)!  Although, I reserve the right to change my mind at anytime on this point.

3. Costumes

Of course, what is a runDisney race without the costumes!  I am starting to work on mine and will share once they are finalized.  I've got 3 to plan this time around (5K, 10K and Half).  Again, I'm trying to keep it simple (no sewing or cutting apart shirts for me... again).  And given the theme of race, I am thinking one costume will be a fairy (I mean, I gotta, right?).  So here are today's question for you all...

Have you ever run in wings before?  Sparkle Athletic has some, but I am worried about actually running in them.  I see a lot of people wearing them, but don't actually know if they are comfortable.

2 on Tuesday

 

While at the WDW Expo, I stopped by the runDisney booth to check out the Princess medals in person.  I liked them when they were first shared and like them even more now that I've seen them in person!  I love the Enchanted 10K with the snowflake and of course the Princess one!  You couldn't tell in the original photo by runDisney, but the medals are actually silver, not gold.  I think that touch works well with the Frozen theme.  Just about 4 weeks until these are mine!

This past weekend was the Star Wars Half Marathon weekend in Disneyland.  I have to admit, I didn't get too excited about this race when they announced it.  I liked the movies (and I've actually never seen the newest 3), but I didn't love them.  It's been a long time I last saw them and my taste in movies has changed a lot since then, so I should probably re-watch them all.  I think I'd like them more now... Anyway, I obviously didn't do the race, but I did have a little bit of FOMO watching everyone at the race this weekend.  Everyone seemed to love the race course and the characters out looked like so much fun.  Hopefully I'll be able to do this race one day!

Disneyland Half Marathon Medals

Since we are talking about Disneyland, I thought I would also share the medals (which I apparently never did) for the races.  I really want to get my race recaps done, but it's taking me a little bit to get back into blogging after all that time off.  They are coming!

I really like the 10K one and that has Stitch on it!  Stitch is such a fun character and I like they went in the other direction from the Alice in Wonderland theme from last year.

I am not 100% sure how I feel about the circle around the D on the half medal.  I like that it's pretty much the same since it's so iconic.

And I love the Dumbo medal - not much changed from last year but they swapped the colors.  What's blue on this medal was red last time and vice versa.  The ribbon might be my favorite part though - so cute!

I am clearly a little excited, huh?

Wine and Dine 5th Anniversary Medal

As I mentioned yesterday in my 2 on Tuesday post, last week the Disney Parks blog shared sneak peaks of the anniversary medals.  In addition to the Goofy 10 year medal from yesterday, they shared the 5th Anniversary medal for Wine and Dine.  Drumroll please...

I don't just like this medal - I LOVE this medal!  First off, I love that it spins (yes, I am 5!) and I really love that they brought back the Spaceship Earth design from the first 3 years while incorporating the design from year 4.  I have done 3 out of the 4 previous years (missed year 2!) and the original Spaceship Earth was my favorite.

I almost didn't register for this year since Pam and I are also doing Tower of Terror, but now that I've seen the medal, I am so glad we did!  There is a group of us going and should be a good girls weekend.  

Only 28 weeks and 3 days to go!

Any other Wine & Diner's out there?  What are your thoughts on the medal?

Princess Medals

We are only 3 weeks until Princess!  I am really looking forward to this weekend.  Outside of the fact that I'll be in Disney and with family, I am mostly looking forward to the warmer weather!  After this polar vortex, I am so in need of warm weather!

Since we are 3 weeks out, let's talk about the bling I am going to be getting!  I meant to do this post sooner, but, you know, life got in the way.

When runDisney first posted the medals, I have to admit, I was not totally in love with them.

But, once I got to see them in person, I feel in love with them!  It wasn't even in actual person - Abby got a peek at them during the NYC Marathon expo and in her photo's the medals looked great.  I am not sure who does runDisney's medal photo's, but they should find someone else.  It does not showcase them in the best light.

Anyway, even beyond Abby's photo's, I got to see them in person at both the Wine and Dine and Marathon weekend expo's.

Enchanted 10K -

I really like this one.  I love the carriage and the slightly purple on the 10K.  I also feel like it is in line with the overall branding of the weekend.

Princess Half -

I love that it is different then last year, but they haven't made too many drastic changes to it.  I have to admit this is one of my favorite medals.  I originally wanted to do this race solely because I wanted a Disney medal with a tiara on it.

Glass Slipper Challenge -

Out of the 3 Princess medals I'll be getting, this is my least favorite.  I wish it was actual glass - how cool would that have been?!?  At least inaugural is spelled right (hello, Minnie 10K bibs?).  But overall, I do like it.  I also really like that the colors for all 3 medals coordinate.

Disney Marathon Weekend Medals

Happy Halloween everyone!  I have no big plans for Halloween (I'm not even dressed up at all), just grabbing dinner with a friend.  It was entertaining today on the subway with everyone in their costumes (there was guy in full Walter gear from Breaking Bad that was pretty good).  Did anyone dress up as anything really good this year?

I've been meaning to get this post up for a while, but other things keep getting the way.  But since they announced the Princess medals last night and I figured I should share the Marathon medals before I share the Princess ones.

The marathon medals were first revealed during the Disneyland Marathon weekend.  As I mentioned, the expo was insane and the runDisney booth was no exception so I didn't get to examine them too intensely.  But runDisney shared a photo of all the medals on their blog about a month ago so I could get a better look at them.

At first glance (back at the expo), I wasn't too thrilled with them medals.  I love that the 5K is Pluto (he's always been one of my favorites), but otherwise they all seemed nice, but not too special.

But, the more time I've spent looking at them, the more they have grown on me.  I like that they are similiar and they get bigger in size from 10K to Marathon.  I like the colors on Goofy (obviously, since they are 'Cuse colors!).  I also really like that the Dopey medal is different from all the others and has more color in it.

I know not everyone loves them (and let's be real, they are never going to please everyone), but I've really grown to like them.  Can't wait until they are all mine in January!

Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Medals revealed!

Earlier this week (Wednesday to be exact), runDisney released the medals for the upcoming Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend including the inagural medals for the Disneyland 10K and Dumbo Double Dare Challenge.

I have to say - I absolutely love the Dumbo Double Dare medal!  Dumbo looks so adorable and I love that Timothy Q Mouse is represented on the ribbon.  I have always been a big fan of the Disneyland Half medal - it looks so classically Disneyland.

I am not 100% sure about the Disneyland 10K.  I think some of it might be the photograph and all of the detail not showing well in it (since it's all gold with no color to break it up).  I like that it is Alice (in a teacup no less!), but it's really hard to see everything on the medal in the photo.  I'm sure it's just the photo and it's going to be awesome in person.  I am still really excited to run it!

Now if only runDisney would release the course maps!

Only 16 weeks until I am on a plane heading to Disneyland for the race!

I'm back!

I'm back from Disney World! We had so much fun - I'm exhausted now. Finished the race in about 2:20 - definitely not my best time, but not bad! We got very cool Donald Duck medals (I'll take a picture and post). It was really cool running though the Magic Kingdom. We got to run through Cinderella's castle and down the front steps. Hopefully, the photographers got some good pictures.

Our weekend in Disney was fun. Went on lots of rides, ate lots of food and had a great time. Thinking of taking some time off from running to relax (not long, but I would like a couple of Saturdays to sleep in!). Pictures coming soon!

Nice week off

Had a nice enjoyable week off. And I mean off. Didn't do anything remotely related to training this past week. Going to get back into the swing this week. Can't not run forever :)

Finally done

I am finally done. Philly was great. I finished in 4:17 - a time I am SUPER happy with. My goal time was 4:15, so to finish right near there - I was thrilled. The race was good overall. The weather was much better then Chicago - mid 40's and even misted at times. Didn't rain enough to truly get me wet. I was feeling good for almost the entire time. At Mile 17, Kiernan jumped in and ran with me, which was a nice pick me up. Then Dave jumped in and ran with me until 21. It was after that that it started to get really hard. I had never run that hard for that long before and my body was aching. 21 was definitely my worst mile. Right before Mile 22, I saw Coach Sandy and Krista cheering on the sidelines. They jumped in and ran with me to 26. They were awesome. Kept me moving, would run in front of me if it was windy, ran ahead to get water for me. It was HUGE help in those last 4 miles and definitely kept me moving. Then, at mile 25.5, Coach Steve H and Melka also jumped in and ran with me. I had my own entourage (I hope some got a picture of it!). They all jumped out right at 26 and left me to finish. It was so great crossing the finish line! Finally felt like I had run a race on my terms and was so proud.

I like our medals a lot (I'll post a picture of it soon) and didn't remove it the entire day. So glad its finally done!

I am definitely sore today, but not as bad as after Chicago. Just taking it easy today and plan on treating myself for the week :)
