Training recap week of 1/2

So we are barely into winter and I am already over the cold. I miss running in shorts and I am skip of having to wear a million layers to go on a run. Yes, I am a wuss 😏. But since I have no plans on moving somewhere warm in the near future, I guess I should stop complaining (out loud at least!).

This weeks training was much less then I expected. I was supposed to run the Disney Half this weekend, but it had to be cancelled due to severe thunderstorms. I'll have a full post later this week about everything so not going to elaborate more now.

I didn't do great with cross training this week. I haven't been doing it for so long, I am really struggling to get back into it.

Currently training for:
  • Enchanted 10K
  • Princess Half Marathon
  • Star Wars Dark Side 10K
  • Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon

Monday
Scheduled: Rest or Cross Training
Actual: Rest day

I was still off of work so I really should have done some sort of cross training, but I was feeling lazy and wanted to take advantage of my last vacation day.

Tuesday
Scheduled: 3-6 miles easy
Actual: 3.5 mi, 33:03, 9:27 pace

Kept this one nice and easy. I am really just starting to get back to running 5 days a week and don't want to overdue it. I also did a toning workout from Tone It Up, so that was good!

Wednesday
Scheduled: Speedwork - 3 miles @ tempo (8:56), plus warm up and cool down
Actual: 5.00 mi, 46:30
Paces: 9:02, 8:58, 8:34

My paces started a little slow, but they picked up throughout the tempo workout. Felt really strong on the last mile and was way ahead of my planned pace!

Thursday
Scheduled: 3-6 miles easy
Actual: 3.08 mi, 30:31, 9:54 pace

Kept this one short as I needed to finish packing and had a very early wakeup call the next morning.

Friday
Scheduled: Rest
Actual: Rest

Saturday
Scheduled: Disney World Half Marathon
Actual: Does lots of walking around Disney count?

No half due to weather 😡

Sunday
Scheduled: 3-6 miles easy
Actual: Rest (lots of walking around Disney)

I completely bailed on this run due to the temps out (only 32 degrees) and I had not brought proper gear for that temp. It wasn't supposed to be that cold, which is why I didn't bring the right stuff.

Ended up not being a great week mileage wise, but it is what it is.

Total Miles: 11.58
Total January Miles: 14.58
Miles to Goal (1,270): 1,248.72

Training recap week of 12/26

Hope everyone had a good last week of 2016! As I mentioned in my last post, I am almost fully back to normal. Although, I don't think I will ever go back to the exact same I was before surgery (there are some scars on my stomach that prove that), but I am feeling as close to the way I was pre-surgery as I can be.

I ended the year on high note - first true speed workout! It felt really good to get a speed workout in. Felt ideal to do it at the end of the year. Here's to 2017!

Currently training for:
  • Disney World Half Marathon
  • Enchanted 10K
  • Princess Half Marathon

Monday
Scheduled: Rest/Cross Training
Actual: Spin class

Used this Monday to get some cross training in! I was still home in PA, but fortunately, a CycleBar just opened near my mom's house and I got a solid spin class in there. It's been a long time since I took a spin class, but it felt good to shake out my legs and sweat out all the holiday treats.

Tuesday
Schedule: 3-6 miles easy
Actual: 3.0 miles, 29:58, 10:00 pace

Easy 3 mile run today. I was a little sore from CycleBar yesterday, so didn't push it or anything.

Wednesday
Scheduled: 3 x 1 mile at 10-20 seconds over goal HMP (so 8:56-9:06), plus warm up and cool down
Actual: 5:41 miles total
Paces: 8:55, 8:56, 8:46

This went surprisingly well. I was nervous about hitting those paces, but they were not as hard as I thought they would be.

Thursday
Scheduled: 3-6 miles easy
Actual: 3.18 mi, 30:55, 9:44 pace

Kept it nice and easy for today's run. Since yesterday was my first speedwork, didn't want to overdo it.

Friday
Scheduled: Rest
Actual: Rest

Saturday
Scheduled: 11 mile long run
Actual: 11.5 mi, 1:53:13, 9:51 pace

Didn't have the greatest month of long runs (in other words, I didn't get any in), but with the Disney Half next weekend, wanted to get a solid long run in. It was good and what a way to end 2016.

Sunday
Scheduled: 3-6 miles easy
Actual: 3.0 mi, 30:23, 10:08 pace

Total Miles: 26.08
Total December Miles: 67.95
Total January Miles: 3.00
Miles to 2016 Goal (1,000): 190.18
Miles to 2017 Goal (1,270): 1,267

I didn't not make my 2016 goal, but given my surgery and the recovery following that, I am not surprised. I did finish the year with just over 800 miles, which I am pretty proud of! It was actually more then I expected to, so I was really psyched. I upped my number in 2017, but with two marathons, it should not be an issue.

How did your training week go?

2 on Tuesday

Does anyone else struggle to drink enough water?  I am the worst at it.  I've tried various ways of tracking (FitBit, My Fitness Pal, using my planner to check off a certain number of cups a day), but they just haven't worked for me.  I always do it but it wouldn't force me to drink.  But one of my Oiselle Flock-mates recently introduced me to a new app which has been working really well for me.  It's called Plant Nanny.  You download it, fill in some info (height, weight, activity level) and it recommends a level of water.  It does recommend a lot of water, so I had to adjust my activity level until I got a lower amount (if I'm struggling getting water in, I wanted to at least make it an amount I can do).  You mark off how much water you drink and your plant grows.  It'll notify you if you haven't drank water lately.  If you don't make it, your plant dies (or wilts, I've been doing good and haven't missed a day so not sure).  It does remind me a little of one those Tamagotchi things from my youth (did I just age myself?), but is is making me drink more water.  So that is a good thing.  And I'm kinda a nerd so I like watching my plant grow.

****************

Registration for the WDW Marathon weekend events for Annual Passholders opened today noon.  Fortunately, I am an AP holder and get to take advantage of this perk - if you are not an AP holder, don't worry, they only open a small percentage for passholders and the rest will be available on April 28th for general registration.  I was able to log on at noon and register.  The process was surprisingly easy - not sure if Active is finally ready to handle runDisney registrations or if less people were trying to do it vs. Wine and Dine.  I am doing the Half again in 2016.  I won't lie, there were a couple of times during this past fall where I actually missed training for the full and thought maybe I would do Goofy this year.  In fact, a couple of my travel buddies for this race are going to be doing Goofy.  But, I decided to only do the half (and I feel quite calm about my decision).  Coming out of the PR this weekend at Raleigh, I am leaning towards racing Rt 66 to try and PR.  And honestly, I am just not sure how I would feel having to continue doing marathon training for Goofy (they are only 6 weeks apart).  I think I made the right decision for me and am excited to do the half again!

Race Recap: Disney Half Marathon 2015

Sorry in advance, this is a long one... but it's mostly photo's if that helps :)

Disney World Half Marathon
January 10, 2015

State: repeat (Florida)
Lifetime: #51

This race has become basically second nature to me.  This was my 8th year doing this race, so I basically have it down by this point.

Race morning always comes bright and early at Disney and this was no different.  I got about 3am (so early!) and quickly got ready.  I had laid all my clothing out the night before (I was going as Winnie the Pooh) and prepped my bag to check.  So it was easy to get ready half asleep.

I'd been watching the weather all week and knew it would be cold race morning so I came prepared.  I had brought a pair of throw away sweat pants, a shirt, $1 store gloves and an old heatsheet.  They were lifesavers, let me tell you.

I headed to the buses just before 4am and was able to board almost immediately.  There was only a little line and they had tons of buses ready to go.  Traffic wasn't too bad to Epcot, but even so, I didn't mind as I was happy to sit in the warm bus instead =)

Once arriving in Epcot and venturing back out into the cold, I headed to the pre-race area.  The security check went quickly and then I had time to kill.  I used the bathroom one last time and made sure all my stuff was ready for the race.  About 45 minutes before the start, I checked my bag and headed to the start.  The walk is long, but it was cold so I was just trying to stay warm.  I was so glad I had packed all the throw away gear!

Once inside the corral, I basically tried to stay warm.  I lost the heat sheet and sweat pants when Corral B started (I was in C).  They only had about 2 minutes in between waves so I didn't have to stand around long.

I didn't really have a plan for this race, just run comfortable and take it easy.  I was planning on stopping for photo's only for characters I had never seen out before.  I did pretty well, but did stop for some repeat photo's (only if they had no line).

The first miles were basically about regaining feeling in my toes.  I was warming up quickly, but my toes always take the longest.  I removed the extra shirt I had on at about mile 3, but kept the gloves on still.

The first couple of character stops were all ones I had before - Captains Jack and Barbossa and Jack and Sally (from Nightmare Before Christmas).  The lines weren't long, but I didn't stop.

Right before hitting the Magic Kingdom parking lot, they had out Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope.  I've gotten a photo with Ralph before, but never Vanellope so I had to stop.  Luckily there were only about 3 people in line before me!

Vanellope and I tried matching poses.

After my picture, I quickly got going again.  I didn't want to get too cold standing around.  As we made the turn into Magic Kingdom at mile 5, I remember thinking how quickly the race was going.  Those first 5 miles had really gone by fast.  By this my hands were really heating up so I lost the gloves.

Running down Main Street never disappoints and this year was no different.  No matter what, I always love that stretch down Main Street.  As we made the turn into Tomorrowland, I tried to take a selfie, but clearly I need to work on my selfie skills.

As normal, they had Buzz Lightyear out in Tomorrowland and the Queen of Hearts in front of the tea cups.  Neither had a line so I stopped for both.

As we came around the corner, I was keeping my eyes peeled for Pooh or Tigger.  One of them is usually by the Winnie the Pooh ride and since I was dressed as Pooh... I was hoping to get that shot.  Unfortunately, they weren't out this year.  But, they did have out one of the Mimes from Tangled (who I've never seen on a course before) so I had to get a shot of that!

Usually right before the Castle, they have either Mickey and Minnie or Donald and Daisy out.  They had neither this year.  It almost always forms a huge line and causes a backup, so I get why they might not have them out; but I feel like they are pretty popular, so it still felt weird.

Similar to running through Main Street, I love running through the Castle.  There is just a feeling that cannot be described.  Continuing along, we headed into Liberty Square and Frontierland.  They had one of the bears from the Country Jamboree out so I stopped so I could at least get 1 photo with another bear.

After that, it was time to head out of the park and start the journey pack to Epcot.  This stretch is usually pretty full of characters/entertainment and this year was no different.  They had a DJ out, some men in tux's outside the wedding pavilion and lots of spectators.  Outside of the Grand Floridian was Bert and the Penguins from Mary Poppins.  No line again (seeing a trend here?), so I stopped for a photo!

Yes, Bert and I coordinated our color choices.

I don't know why (since I started in a similar corral as usual), but I remember finding it strange the sun wasn't even up yet.  I got to watch a very pretty sunrise during the trip back to Epcot.

Right near the Golf courses, they always have out either Golfer Mickey or Golfer Goofy.  And the line is always ridiculously long, so I never wait (even though I've always wanted that photo).  But this time around, the line was (relatively) short - about 10 people.  As you might have noticed, there were really very little lines this year.  I'm guessing given the low temps, people did not want to wait in lines and get cold.

Even though this line was "short", I almost didn't wait as I didn't want to get cold.  But I quickly realized it was BOTH Golfer Mickey and Golfer Goofy and I couldn't pass that photo up!

Bonus for the beautiful sunrise in the background
And immediately following that was the Genie with Abu.  I love Abu in the movie so I had to stop (again, no line!).

He must drink Alice's growing potion for the photo's...

After this section is one of my least favorite parts of the course (basically miles 9-12).  It's a long straightaway on a highway and you've past most of the character stops.  They do have entertainment on the course, but it's still tough.

I know there were a lot of corrals this year and they were really spaced out, but I was surprised to see the mass of runners just heading into Magic Kingdom.  Usually at this point, it's just the stragglers, but there were tons of people still heading in.

During these miles, I tried to zone out and just keep moving along.  I actually ended up joining a conversation with some fellow runners and ended up chatting with them for a while (and actually ran the rest of the race with one of them).  Just one reason, I love the running community - every one is so friendly!

Having someone to talk to the last couple of miles, made those miles go by really quickly.  Before I knew it, we were heading into Epcot for the last section.  After a quick jog around Spaceship Earth, we were heading back out and past the Gospel choir to the finish line!

My finishing time was 2:13:04 which is just over a 10 minute pace (10:09).  Considering I wanted to take it easy and when factoring in photo stops, I am happy with this time!

After collecting my medal, I was keeping my eyes peeled for Abby.  Similar to last year, she was volunteering.  I was very excited to see her and we walked for a bit - she couldn't go far from her zone, but walked me to the water area.  And helped me open it, which was good since stopping my hands were quickly getting cold again.  I do have to say, I am surprised they weren't handing out heatsheets as it was cold once you stopped running.

After taking a finishers photo and grabbing my snack box, I head to baggage.  After collecting my things, I said goodbye to my new friend (and good luck since he was doing Dopey!) and made my way to the character photo's.  They had out Chip and Dale, Daisy, Goofy and Dopey.  I wished they had had out Dopey last year, but I am glad they learned for those folks running this year.

I think it goes without saying that I love this race.  It was my first Disney race ever and I've come back every year (and will continue to do so).  I liked that they had some different characters out on the course and seem to be learning from past years (like having Dopey at the finish for photo's).  The new corral system seems to be helping with congestion (at least for me, can't speak for the corrals farther back).

Another great Disney Half in the books!  Can't wait to go back again... how many weeks until Princess?

Results
Official: 13.1 miles, 2:13:04, 10:09 pace
Garmin: 13.41 miles, 2:13:02, 9:55 pace

And of course, no race is complete with out my customary medal + beer photo.

WDW Marathon Weekend: Expo Goodies!

Now that I'm finished with my 2014 recaps, I can get to 2015 things - and less then 2 weeks after it happened!

I am going to keep this post pretty short, as I honestly didn't spend a ton of time at the expo, but did want to share what I picked up... since we know I love my race merchandise.

In what has become a new tradition, I started my expo out with a beer in a runDisney cup.  I can't remember the exact name (it was one I hadn't had before), but I really liked it.  It was a nice and light wheat beer.

First, we headed in to get our numbers.  It wasn't too crowded and I was able to pick up my number with no wait time.  They did have a merchandise area set up in there, but it was completely empty and closed.  Even though I didn't want/need anything, I was curious to see what was left.

From there we headed into the main expo floor.  Again, since we really didn't need anything, we didn't really walk around much.  Just a quick stop at the Sweaty Bands booth to check out their stuff and then on to the race tee.  The Half race tee this year was red, which is nice, because I don't have ton of red tech shirts.  After trying it on to make sure it fit, we headed into the official race merchandise.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how much stuff was still available.  The most picked over sections were Dopey and Goofy.  No surprise with Dopey since those folks had to go on Wednesday to get there numbers.  I feel like most people for Goofy come on Friday so also not surprised it was more sold out (but there was still stuff left).  Still lots of stuff left for the Half and Full.  I'm really glad Disney has started ordering more stuff!

Half Merchandise
As I mentioned, I was really trying to be good.  I need more running clothing like I need a whole in my head (seriously, I did some cleaning over Christmas and the amount of running clothing I have is at a ridiculous level!).  I was good and didn't buy much.  Abby had gone to the expo on Wednesday (the perks of having a friend who lives locally!) and picked up the runDisney Sweaty Bands I wanted.  I also picked up a replica medal pin (apparently this is my new thing - last year it was magnets, now mini medal pins!).

I also picked up a Coast to Coast shirt as the Disneyland expo's tend to be a disaster.  I won't wear it until after Tinker Bell though!

There was no line to check out, so we managed to make it in and out of the merchandise area pretty quickly.  From there, it was a quick stop at the runDisney booth to look at the Frozen medals and then to the Sparkle Athletic booth as I needed to pick up my visor for my costume.  From there, we headed back to the hotel.  The rest of the expo was all stuff we've seen before and we had FastPasses for the Mine Train to make!

What did anyone else pick up at the expo?  Share your goodies with me so I can live vicariously through you!

Training recap week of 1/5 (Disney Half Week 7 / Tink Week 1)

This week was not great running wise as the cold kept me inside and I ended up skipping two runs.  The temperature was just too cold!  I focused on cross training though, so that was good!

This week was also the first week of Tinkerbell training.  I am doing the 5K, 10K and Half so I want to make sure I am prepared.  I only have 2 other halves before then so those will be folded into my training schedule.

Training recap week of 12/29 (Disney Half Week 6)

It's hard to believe that at this time last year, I was heading into my final week of Dopey training.  It feels like it was both a lifetime ago and yesterday.  I remember the feeling of running that marathon completely.  I also feel like it was FOR-EVER ago.  How is that possible?

I will say, I am very happy to just be running the half this Saturday.  I loved experiencing Dopey, but I also loved not having the stress of training for it over Christmas.

This past week was not a great week.  After being home for Christmas, I came back and got a horrible cold.  I know exactly who gave it to me - my youngest niece (love the girl but she is like a germ dispenser).  I got my runs in, but cut back on the mileage in order to allow myself to recover.  By Saturday, I was 95% back to my regular self!

And since one of my goals in 2015 was to do more cross training (aiming for 4x a week), I am going to be including those workouts in my recaps!

Training recap week of 12/22 (Disney Half Week 5)

This week was definitely a little busy (life wise) with the holidays and everything.  Between going home and family stuff, it was a busy week!

Mileage wise, I was definitely down, but it was needed.  As winter is the off season, I am trying not too over do it.  Just enough running this week to balance out all the extra calories :)

On another note, I reached my mileage goal this week with a few days to spare!  Love reaching goals!

Training recap week of 12/15 (Disney Half Week 4)

Well... this week was interesting.  Let's just jump right in.  You may remember from a 2 on Tuesday a couple of weeks ago, that I was doing the Runners World Run Streak (run everyday from Thanksgiving to New Years).  Well... this is the week it ended.

There are lots of excuses I could make for why it ended - I didn't feel well (which was true, I woke up on Thursday feeling like a truck hit me) or worked late or something of the like.  But the truth is, I decided to end the streak because it was the right decision for me.  I had never done something like this before, so I had no idea how it would be.

At first, it was great.  I was so excited to get out there for runs, but as time went on, I started to dread running.  And not some runs, ALL runs.  And it was effecting my mood.  Knowing I had to run that day (no matter what) was making me miserable.  This is my off season (still running, but giving my body and mind a break), but I was feeling the familiar signs of burn out.  Definitely not what I wanted or needed.  So, as much as I wanted to do the streak, I knew I needed to stop.  I won't lie, I felt great the first day I didn't run and by the time I did run on Saturday (after a 2 day break), I was excited to run again and it felt good.  It was definitely the right call for me.

Even though I only made it 21 days, I am still proud of myself.  I tried something new and while it might not have been right for me, you don't know if you don't try.  I give all of you who streak long term mad props.  It's seriously impressive!

This week ended up being a down week, not just because of stopping the streak.  I did get a bit sick on Thursday, which I felt coming on on Wednesday so that 5 miler ended up only being 1 mile.
I feel much better today and 100% heading into the holiday!

Training recap week of 12/8 (Disney Half Week 3)

Another week of running come and gone.  I still can't believe we are less then 2 weeks out from Christmas.  I'm about 90% done with all my Christmas shopping, which is much better then usual!

This week was a down week for me - all easy runs.  My legs were really feeling a bit tired all week, so I really tried to take it easy (did better on some runs then others).  I really don't want to get burnt out over the winter.

Training recap week of 12/1 (Disney Half Week 2)

Getting this recap in just under the wire!  I can't believe is the middle of December already.  Time is continuing to fly by.  Sorry for the bit of radio silence, but had lots going on and as I am trying not to over schedule myself, I didn't post this week.  So many recaps I want to get done - hopefully this will be the week!

Got all my runs in this week, but had to cut some of the mileage down due to work commitments.  Better to run a little then none at all!

Monday
Scheduled: Rest
Actual: 1.01 mi, 10:10, 10:07 pace

Tuesday

Training recap week of 11/24 (Disney Half Week 1)

Another week of training come and gone.  This week my runs got a little switched around, but I got all my miles in, which is the most important thing.  But the most exciting thing happened during my Turkey Trot 5K on Thursday - I set a new PR in the 5K!  I finally broke the 23 minute mark, which makes me so happy.  It's great to see my hard work paying off!

2 on Tuesday

Registration for the January WDW Marathon weekend events opened today.  Events include the 5K, 10K, Half, Full, Goofy and Dopey (plus kids races).  As of 2:30pm, the 10K and Dopey sold out!  I honestly thought Dopey would sell out slower then that and Goofy would sell out quicker.  I am doing the half this year, no challenges for me - even though I was almost tempted by...

...this medal!  When they shared the 10th Anniversary Goofy medal this past week on the Disney Parks Blog, the idea of doing Goofy (very, very, very) briefly flitted through my mind.  I love the medal (it spins!) but not even this medal could make me do it this year.  I'm not saying never, but definitely not this year.  They also shared the 5th Anniversary Wine and Dine medal, but that ones gets it's own special post.

Race Recap: Walt Disney World Half Marathon 2014

Don't miss my recaps of the expo5K and 10K!  All below photo's are from my iPhone.  I plan on doing a post with the professional photo's so I am not posting all the photo's I took (you're welcome).  Once they finish identifying all the professional photo's, then I'll share those!

Walt Disney World Half Marathon
January 11, 2014

State: Florida (repeat)
Lifetime Half: #42

Day 3 of getting up at an ungodly hour.  This morning was not as easy as the other 2 (even though I went to bed at 8pm).  I had laid out my clothes and packed my pack the night before, so I quickly got dressed and was on the way to the bus by 3:30am.

As soon as I opened the door, I was hit with humidity.  This would not be the easiest weather to run in.  I was able to board a bus with minimal wait.  There was more traffic this morning then the 5K or 10K, but not too bad.

Upon arriving at Epcot, Pam and I made our way through security (the line was long, but moved quickly) and camped out again by baggage.  I had brought one of my throwaway sweatshirts to sit on (I definitely didn't need to wear it with the humidity).

We spent some time people watching but before we knew it, it was time to check the bags and head to our corrals.  Bag check went quickly and smoothly.  The walk to the start is pretty long, which is so annoying.  When we got closer, the corrals split into 2 sections, so I said goodbye to Pam and made my way to Corral F.

I had more time to kill in the corral and befriended some more Dopey folks (1 of whom I even saw the next day after the marathon!).  They had Donald Duck there (with Mickey and Goofy) to kick it off.  The first corral went off on time and the window between corrals wasn't too long.  It took just under 15 minutes for my corral to start.  Not sure what happened, but for some reason there were no fireworks for our corral - not cool runDisney!

As this was my 7th time running this race (plus 1 time at Princess), I know this course by now like the back of my hand.  Given the heat and the fact I was going to be running a marathon the next day, I was really trying to take it easy.

We started off on the highway towards the Magic Kingdom and headed inside and went past the race track, Ticket and Transportation center and towards the Contemporary.  There is a point right before the  Contemporary were we go down under an overpass and then back up.  This is the first time I realized we go under water there (seriously, I spoke with other people and they all knew it).  Can't believe it took me so many years to figure that out!

Right past the mile 5 marker, we make a left turn and start heading into the Magic Kingdom.  It never fails, when I turn the corner and enter Main Street, I always get chills.  Past Main Street we head into Tomorrowland, then into Fantasyland where I stopped for photo's with the Red Queen, Tigger and Daisy and Donald.  Since I was dressed as Donald, I couldn't resist (even though the line was pretty long).

After my picture with Donald and Daisy, we headed through the castle and into Liberty Square and then Frontierland where we head out of the Park.  They did have a float out with Cinderella and the Prince, but the line was long so I passed on that one.

By this point, we were almost 7 miles in and started to make the journey back to Epcot.  This portion of the race can be pretty tough, but they had a good amount of characters out and music playing that it seemed to go pretty quickly.

Before I knew it, we were making the turn onto the on ramp with my favorite Green Army man yelling at us.  I always love him.  I was trying to take the on ramps easy and not push it.  I knew I needed to preserve my energy for Sunday.

Just past 12, we headed into Epcot for a quick bit (it really isn't a lot in the Half).  I stopped at the turn point at the start of World Showcase to take a picture with Rafiki and Timon.

After the turn around point, we head back past Spaceship Earth and out the park past the Gospel choir (always one of my favorite points) and then towards the finish line!

After crossing the finish, I was keeping my eye out for Abby who was volunteering.  I spotted her just after getting my medal.  I was so happy to see her!  I won't lie, I got a little emotional as I realized I was going to run a marathon the next day.

She walked with my to get my Gatorade and water and headed towards my Dopey bracelet.  I now had 3 on my wrist.  Abby headed back to the finish line to continue volunterring and I made my way to finisher's photo's and food.

This race is always one of my favorites and it didn't disappoint this year.  My time won't go down in any record books as one of my faster races, but that wasn't the point.  I purposely kept it slow and conserved energy.

3 down, 1 to go!

Dumbo Costumes!

In just four short weeks (or long depending on how you look at it), I will be on a plane heading to LA and Disneyland.  That's right, we are only 4 weeks away from Dumbo!

This year, I am going all out (at least for me) in terms of costumes.  I've been running Disney since 2008, but have only started getting into costumes in the last 6 months.  Let's review the progression (apologies now for the picture heavy post).

We got a great shot running through the castle
Disney Half 2008 - Jenny and I were coming off of a TNT season and rocked our singlets for the race.  No theme-ing at all.

Great shot in Epcot
Disney Half 2009 - basic running outfit.  Nike tempo shorts and white tank.  Good shot in Epcot though!

I can't find any photo's from Disney World Half 2010.  It was snowing.  That's all I remember.

Turk!
Wine and Dine 2010 - Kasey and I got a little theme-y for the Inaugural Wine and Dine with shirts that said Wine O and a polka dot head band.  The shirt will make a reappearance later.

Nothing fancy for 2011.  Running skirt and white top.

Having trouble finding a photo from Disney World Half 2012, but I know it was pretty basic.

Sully!
Tinkerbell Half 2012 - broke the mold with black capri's and a white tank for the inaugural Tink.  Did rock a sparkly green headband in honor of my favorite fairy.

Chip and Dale
Remember that Wine O shirt?  It's back!  Otherwise pretty basic for Wine and Dine 2012.

Disney World Half 2013 - Outside of the fact that my shirt was basically neon pink, nothing special here... (yes, same shorts as Wine and Dine 2012)

Princess Half 2013 - First real foray into costumes.  Themed shirt (says "Who needs glass slippers, this princess wears running shoes", pink head band and tiara (and yes, same shorts again.  What can I say, they are really comfortable!).

So that brings us to Dumbo.  And yes, we are going full on costumes (for me at least!).  For the Disneyland 10K, we are going to be Minnie (both me and Pam) and for the Half I am going to be Snow White (Pam is still undecided).  We got Team Sparkle skirts, tanks and headbands.  Pam even got us Minnie spibelts to wear for the 10K!  I know it's not that elaborate, but it's big for me!

I even took the yellow skirt out for a test run during the Queens 10K and it did not bother me at all, so that's good to know!  I've been running in the 2 tanks as well to make sure they are comfortable.

Minnie and Snow White

I've already started a google doc of other (easy) costume ideas.  While I want to get into it, I still want to be able to run in it - and I think the Sparkle skirts are perfect for that!

What are some other costume ideas I should include?

Training recap... well that didn't go as planned

So this post was scheduled to be a training recap for last week... and then I went and barely did my workouts (for the record I skipped Wednesday - Sunday, great job Sarah).  It was one of those weeks were life just got in the way.  So skipping the recap this week (fingers crossed next week goes better!).

Instead, I thought I share the news about the latest runDisney races - the Dopey Challenge.  They are adding a 10K to Friday morning (moving the 5K to Thursday morning) and then the Dopey Challenge is doing the 5K, the 10K, the Half and the Full.  Let me just say whoa.  That is a lot of running.

I haven't even started planning my race schedule for 2014, but Pam and I are tossing around the possibility of doing 10K and the half (like the Dumbo Double Dare but we don't get an extra medal).  Registration opens on 4/9, so I guess I have until then to decide.

Disney World Half Race Photo's

This post is so overdue it's laughable!  But I love these photo's from the Disney World Half and wanted to share my favorites!  The top one might be my favorite photo of all time!

I am such a sucker - I always end up buying them!

Anyone else always buy the race photo's even if they don't plan on it?

Seriously - favorite photo ever.  Totally unplanned.
To infinity - and beyond!

Had to get one with Donald since it is his race!
