Off to Disney...the end is here! (I mean my 30 by 30 challenge of course, not the end of the world)

Tomorrow morning (bright and early!) I will be on a plane heading to Disney for the last in my challenge to run 30 half marathons before my 30th birthday.  I can't believe it's finally here.  I feel like I started it so long ago (even though it was only like a year) and it really took a lot of planning and organization to get it in, but I am really excited.

While, it's pretty mild in NYC right now, it is going to be in the low 80's when we are there.  I am so excited for warm weather!  Just look at this weather report below:

Oh hey summer, I missed you

Hope everyone has a great weekend!  I'll be taking a blogger break while I am enjoying the sunshine and awesome-ness that is Disney for the next 5 days!  See you on Wednesday!

30 by 30: #29 (or the end is getting closer...)

Last weekend was #28 at the Wine and Dine and this weekend brings about number 29!  I will be heading down to Philly tomorrow after work to run the Philadelphia Half Marathon on Sunday.  I am excited for the weekend.  I'll be staying with a good friend who lives there and of course, the race is on Sunday.  I've run the Philadelphia Marathon twice (#4 and 8), but never the half.

I can't believe #29 is already here.  I remember back in January when this idea was an inkling in my mind and I had only done #21.  What a long way to come in 10 months!

Wish me luck for Sunday!

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday everyone! I'm still in the airport here in Orlando. Our flight is delayed by 3 hours. Love traveling, hate flights!

I'll have a full recap of both the race (#28 is done!) and the Food and Wine festival later this week, but here are some instragram photo's to check out!

30 by 30: #28 this weekend!

I'm off today to Florida to run race #28 in my goal of 30 half marathons before my 30th birthday.  It's the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.  The race takes place at night and runs through Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios before finishing right outside Epcot.  Then there is a finisher's party in Epcot until 3am!

This weekend is also the last weekend of the Disney Food and Wine Festival, which means I will be eating and drinking up a storm.  For more info on the festival (and to make yourself hungry), check out my favorite blog on all things Disney food: Disney Food Blog

Race Report: Providence Half Marathon

Last weekend was race number #26 in my 30 for 30 goal - the Providence Half Marathon.  I did this race last year and will admit (at the time) it was not one of my favorites.  The course is slightly hilly (although in my mind it was way hillier then it actually is) and it monsooned last year.  I mean, it literally downpoured the entire time.  Some parts of the course and 3-4 inches of water in it.  So needless to say, it did not have the best memories of any of my half's.

However, I have very different feelings about this race after this year.  It was great!  The weather could not have been more perfect (it was sunny, but not too warm or humid) and the course is beautiful.  I really feel in love with Providence during this run.  I came away totally thinking I could live there.

The course is hilly, but not nearly as bad as I had it in my mind.  There is a brutal hill at about 4.5 but otherwise everything is small rolling hills.  I do think the worst park is the finish line.  It is literally at the top of a hill.  You turn a corner, see the mile 13 sign and are staring straight up a hill.  I am not joking.  If you ever do the race - save a little bit for the finish!

As you know, I love a good race t-shirt and this one might be one of my new favorites!  The design is super cute and it fits perfectly.  Race t-shirts can always be hit or miss, but this one is a definitely hit!

As I've said, my training has not been ideal lately, but this race went incredibly well.  I went out there with a "we'll see what happens" mentality and ended up having a great race.  Finished in 1:58:10 for a 9:01 pace.  Makes me feel that my new plan of a 10:00 min pace for the marathon is right on target.  Combine that with this weekends solid 20 mile run (seriously, went much better then expected and in high humidity) I am starting to feel a little more confident in the marathon.  Going to really focus on getting my workouts in during the next 4 weeks before the race.

Speaking of the marathon... they released the elevation chart.

It's not too bad right?  Minus that hill that goes from about 12-16 (or 19.5 if you want to be really mean)?  I am trying to not really think about how hilly this could be and just take it for what it is.  Nothing I can do about it now, right?

This upcoming Saturday is race #27 in the 30 by 30 countdown - the Virginia Beach Half Marathon.  I must say, I am really looking forward to 5 days at the beach.  Basically, that is all I am thinking about.  I keep forgetting that I have to do a half marathon while I'm there.

I'm back!

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the month's hiatus from blogging, but it's been a big month for me and blogging took a back seat.  I guess the biggest news is I got a new job.  Anyone who has ever left a job and started a new one knows how crazy those couple of weeks can be.  So that's my excuse.  Sorry!

Starting a new job can be scary, but I (like to) think change is good.  Keeps you from getting complacent.  But now I am one week into my new job and getting settled, so hopefully I'll be able to blog more consistently.  I have about 10 posts how finished because I'd start to write them, but run out of time to finish. Can't wait to get back into a routine.

So to get back into the swing of things, thought I would start with an update on where I am for my 30 by 30 goal.

I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon on May 19th (a quick race recap will be coming soon) which was number #25!  Only 5 to go!  And those 5 have been decided.  The next up is the Rock n Roll Providence Half Marathon on August 19th.  I ran this one last year (in a monsoon) so should be a good race.  It's a hilly, challenging course which is one of the reasons we went with this one over the the Wild Half since (apparently) the Montreal course is very hilly.

I am also officially registered for the Wine and Dine (and everything except the flight is booked) and Philadelphia half's.  Only thing left to register for is the Disney World Half, which I am hoping to do soon.

26 - Providence Half Marathon (8.19.12)
27 - Virginia Beach Half Marathon (9.2.12)
28 - Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon (11.10.12)
29 - Philadelphia Half Marathon (11.18.12)
30 - Disney World Half Marathon (1.12.13)

30 by 30 Update

Tomorrow is the Brooklyn Half Marathon - half number #25.  Should be nice weather and the course ends in Coney Island (so I imagine a Nathan's hot dog for breakfast afterwards).  In the spirit of race #25, wanted to give you an update on the remaining races.

Looks like both the Wine and Dine and Philadelphia Half are not tentative anymore.  My friend Pam is definitely in for Wine and Dine and my friend Kasey is going to run Philly.  I haven't registered yet, so until I do I am keeping them as tentative.  I plan on registering both by the end of May (before the prices increase).

As for #26, I am currently leaning towards the WildHalf in Wildwood, NJ on August 26th.  If that doesn't work out, I'll need to find another.  Given that I am training for a marathon all summer, it's made it a little harder then I anticipated for find races.  So hopefully this one works out!

25 -Brooklyn Half Marathon (5.19.12)
26 - The WildHalf (8.26.12) - TENTATIVE
27 -Virginia Beach Half Marathon (9.2.12)
28 - Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon (11.10.12) - TENTATIVE
29 - Philadelphia Half Marathon (11.18.12) - TENTATIVE
30 - Disney World Half Marathon (1.12.13)

Full race report on Brooklyn coming next week.

PS - Like my new icon for 30 by 30?  I know it's not a lot, but I am very proud of it :)

30 by 30 - Updated

Half marathon number 24 is coming up this weekend, so wanted to do a quick update on my 30 by 30 running goal.

I have 2 tentative races for numbers 28 and 29 now included.  My friend Pam and I are seriously considering doing the Wine and Dine and I think I am going to do the Philadelphia Half in November.  It's close and easy and gives me an excuse to eat all I want on Thanksgiving (it's the Sunday before hand).

24 - New Jersey Half Marathon (5.6.12)
25 -Brooklyn Half Marathon (5.19.12)
26 -
27 -Virginia Beach Half Marathon (9.2.12)
28 - Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon (11.10.12) - TENTATIVE
29 - Philadelphia Half Marathon (11.18.12) - TENTATIVE
30 - Disney World Half Marathon (1.12.13)

A full race report on New Jersey will come on Monday!

Updated 30 by 30

So I have another race for the 30 by 30 challenge.  I registered this week for the Brooklyn Half Marathon with NYRR. I have done Brooklyn before (5 years ago actually!), but this is a new course this year.  Starts in Prospect Park and ends in Coney Island.  It'll be in the middle of May, so weather should be nice (fingers crossed).  That leaves only 3 races unplanned:

24 - New Jersey Half Marathon
25 -Brooklyn Half Marathon (new)
26 -
27 -Virginia Beach Half Marathon
28 -
29 -
30 - Disney World Half Marathon

30 by 30

This upcoming January will be my 30th birthday (holy cow, it feels weird saying that!).  This is not an "I'm turning 30, let's freak out" post, because a) it's still like 10 months away and b) I'm not really freaked out by it (see a).

But I did come up with an idea/goal for my 30th birthday - run 30 half marathons (i.e. 30 by 30).  Honestly, I'm not really that far away from 30.  I'm currently at 23.  So I have 7 still to go and already have a couple planned (I originally thought it was 24, 6 left but then realized I was counting a half relay in there and can't have that).

24 - New Jersey Half Marathon
25 -
26 - Virginia Beach Half Marathon
27 -
28 -
29 -
30 - Disney World Half Marathon

Not sure what those remaining 3 will be, maybe the Disney Wine and Dine will be one of them...still trying to figure out my schedule.  Hoping to find a local one for June and maybe another in July.  I am doing a full the last weekend of September so need to factor that in.  Either way, I do know the Disney World Half will be my 30th though!

Will update as I get closer to my goal!
